LOGLINE:

An exploration and celebration of an influential art movement within the Indigenous community in New Brunswick in the 1960’s. Available now on CBC Gem.

SYNOPSIS:

The Micmac Indian Craftsmen (MIC) studio in 1960’s New Brunswick forever changed the landscape of modern Indigenous art in the Atlantic provinces. Serving as a companion piece to the book of the same name (Goose Lane Editions, 2022), the documentary is acelebration of the rich history surrounding these unsung artists from Elsipogtog and their era-defining works. Beaverbrook Art Gallery co-curators Emma Hassencahl-Perley and John Leroux, curators from the Abbe Museum in Maine, and  elder artists themselves provide deep historical context into the movement and it’s works, as we explore how they impacted the next generation of Indigenous artists working in Atlantic Canada.
